My baby only wants to be with me

And suddenly, that baby who all family used to carry, no longer wants to separate from its mother, even for a single moment. Leaving the baby at home has become a real problem because, every time you leave the house, he cries inconsolably. It’s now, more than ever, that your child needs your empathy because he is experiencing the anguish of separation that comes from the emotional attachment to mom or dad.

Usually, between the eighth or ninth months of age, the baby generates an attaching bond to its closest caretakers. The little ones begin with the anguish of separation or fear to strange people, known as the famous “mamitis” or “papitis” in Spanish, which means extremely emotional attachment to one or both of its parents.

The extremely emotional attachment could be to parents, grandpas, aunts… it depends on whom the baby has created the affective bond because a baby doesn’t have developed the maturity of object permanence. That means that the child does not know “if the person who takes care of it, will return”.

Babies suffer deep anguish when mom or dad have to go away. “It is a natural stage in children’s development, and it’s cyclical: it comes and goes. The child will get rid of it when it is able to internalize that its caretakers are going to leave, but also, they’re going to come back”, explains psychologist Coral Casarín Morfín, development advisor from Proyecto Dei Association.

How to support your children

During this stage, babies need a lot of patience from you. You shouldn’t tell them “If you misbehave, I’ll leave you with this lady”, making reference to someone the child doesn’t know. Also, you shouldn’t let unknown people (for them), take care of them. For example, the aunt or the cousin that they have never seen.

In stressful situations, a child will need that the adult gives it certainty and security to accompany and contain it emotionally. Usually this attachment will be developed to mom and dad.

“If your baby is in an extremely emotional attachment stage, the expert recommends to breathe deeply. Breathing will allow us to distance ourselves and be in our balance and, as adults, be able to help our child when it has a moment of anxiety”.

When a child is protected by a supportive adult relationship, it learns to face daily challenges, and its defense system against stress goes back to its set point. Scientists call this as positive stress, according to the Harvard University Child Development Center.

Parents also need to take care of themselves: “a mom or dad that do so, will take care of its child too. A mom or dad that keeps calm would be able to calm its child”.

Carol Casarín Morfín, development advisor from Proyecto Dei association.

Don’t hide away!

Hiding any time you want to leave home, so your child can’t see you, is not a good idea. Many parents do this so the baby won’t cry or suffer, but if you use that strategy all the time and you “hide” without letting it know, the child will be anguished, explains Coral Casarín.

The parenting expert recommends to tell the kid that you’re going out, but you are going to return; it is basic to do so because this will help the baby understand what’s going on. “Letting the baby know is a preventive medicine”. You could say, “I am going to the doctor; I’ll be back later. When I´m back, I´ll hug and kiss you”.

A baby would not understand about temporality, that is, the time and space location. So, you can make it a graphic calendar with pictures or drawings so it could know what is going to happen during the day and, it could go better through the separation anguish stage.

During the attachment period the baby will cry, and it is not a tantrum, but anguish. Little by little the child will learn to trust, and that will only happen watching you return. Slowly the child will become self-sufficient and independent.

What else could you do during this development stage of your baby? Other resources to go through the attachment stage are to find moments of concentrated attention and specific time playing with your child.

You are not weak; postpartum depression happens to many women

When you become a mother, you face a series of expectations from your family, partner, and society. They make you believe that keeping everything under control and keeping what you feel to yourself is synonymous with strength. Little is said about emotions after giving birth, much less about postpartum depression.

Motherhood transforms you. The arrival of a life that depends 100% on you can be overwhelming, especially when you think that you will no longer be the same as before. If you add the changes in your body after childbirth and the ups and downs of emotions caused by hormones, you perceive yourself as very vulnerable.

Many women experience sadness after their baby’s birth. They may have mood swings, feel anxious, overwhelmed, have crying spells, lose their appetite, or have trouble sleeping. These feelings usually go away within a few days or a week of having the baby and are known as baby blues or postpartum blues.

However, the symptoms of postpartum depression last longer and are more severe. The National Library of Medicine explains that the new mom can feel hopeless and helpless, leading to disinterest in her child.

A roller coaster of emotions

Many moms keep their emotions to themselves and don’t talk about postpartum depression for fear of being judged. Ani Cuartas, a lactation consultant, says, “Motherhood is a roller coaster of emotions; when your baby is born, on the one hand, you are happy, but you are also haunted by the thoughts that you will no longer be the same”.

People tell you, “You became a mother; your baby is healthy. Why are you crying? Why are you not happy? Why do you miss your old life? You feel like you are in a stadium, and all the lights are pointed at you; in the event of any failure, they point you out. It is a process that very few of us talk about, but it is very important to speak about it; motherhood is a roller coaster, full of emotions”.

Ani says that the love for your child is “the greatest you can feel on the planet”, but becoming a mother implies a reorganization of your activities and that your life will never be the same.

“These are normal things that happen to us due to hormonal change and due to grief, although the word sounds ugly. It is grief because our old self dies and a new self begins… Seeing your child be born, holding him in your arms is the most divine thing that can happen to you as a woman, but you do go through many hormonal, physical, and psychological changes”.

What is postpartum depression?

It is a severe affective mental disorder. Its main symptoms are sadness, high levels of tiredness, sleep disorders, and high cortisol levels, details the World Health Organization (WHO).

Postpartum depression is more common than you think; 1 in 7 women go through it during the first year of their child’s life, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, while in Mexico, it is estimated that 23% of women mothers suffer from it, reveal data from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).

Remember that postpartum depression is not a sign of weakness or being a bad mother but is part of the change you go through when your baby is born.

Causes

Although there is no single cause of postpartum depression, the Mayo Clinic discusses some contributing factors:

  • Physical changes: After your child’s birth, there is a drop in estrogen and progesterone levels. In addition, the decrease in hormones produced by the thyroid can lead to tiredness, laziness, and depression.
  • Emotional problems: When you have not slept and feel overwhelmed, it can be difficult for you to deal with everyday situations, making you doubt your ability to care for your newborn, along with feeling less attractive and losing your identity or control of your life can contribute to postpartum depression.

When should you ask for help?

Mayo Clinic recommends that if symptoms persist or take on these characteristics:

  • They don’t disappear after two weeks
  • The worsen
  • They make it difficult for you to take care of your baby
  • They make it difficult for you to complete your everyday tasks
  • They include thoughts about hurting yourself or your baby

It would help if you went to a specialist for proper treatment.

During breastfeeding, there is a crush of love between mom and baby

Movies, television, and everything around you make you idealize motherhood. They have made you see that the moment you breastfeed your baby for the first time will be magical, and your connection will happen immediately. It is not always that way. Fatigue after childbirth, emotions, and myths make breastfeeding difficult.

When you become a mom, you face endless doubts, and every day you discover new things that are a challenge. Breastfeeding is one of them because it is as if it were your first exam on how to be a mother; if you do not do it well, people will judge you, and then you will assume that you are a bad mother so you hesitate to ask for help.

Do not feel bad for not being able to breastfeed your baby; the lack of support and information is one of the obstacles to breastfeeding in Mexico; only 31% of babies are exclusively breastfed in the first six months of life, according to Unicef.

Calm down; not everything has to be perfect, you are learning, and you will often make mistakes. You are not alone; many women want to help and accompany you in this new adventure. Ani Cuartas, a lactation consultant, tells you about her experience.

We recommend: Breastfeeding against Covid-19: this is what scientists say

From rage to love

Ani remembers her first time facing breastfeeding as the most significant challenge she had as a new mom; emotions and fatigue combined against her; postpartum depression made it more difficult for her to breastfeed her little Julia.

“I didn’t think I would last breastfeeding for six months; at first, it seemed that it was the most demanding, exhausting. Physical exhaustion and hormones made me feel angry about breastfeeding.”

The first month of breastfeeding was not pretty for Ani, so she started supplementing with formula.

“I wanted to feel that I was the good old Ana María that could go out for coffee, but I couldn’t do it because Julia had to eat and everything depended on me. I suffered very strong baby blues. So I complimented my daughter with formula initially because I said that not everything could depend on me”.

Julia started having reflux and constipation; she complained while she slept; this alarmed Ani and made her feel very guilty. She changed her pediatrician, who told her that her milk was of good quality, and she recommended stopping formula. Her daughter recovered, and Ani fell in love with breastfeeding.

“I felt that I was making my daughter sick because of depression and lack of accompaniment”.

One in seven women suffers from postpartum depression, which can occur at any time during the first year of giving birth; this is why women experiencing this condition require much more support for breastfeeding, warns the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The crush

Once her baby was healthy again, the much-talked-about connection between mother and child when breastfeeding was born.

“I was alone in the house with her; I was breastfeeding her, and Julia unlatched, looked at me, smiled at me for the first time, looking into my eyes. She then went back to breastfeeding. There I said, Here is the connection”.

Ani tells mothers, “This connection with their children is not always immediate, as people would make you believe on television since women go through a very complicated process after giving birth. At such times, what you need most is support and the right information at the right time.”

“I completely fell in love with breastfeeding, I liked it so much that I breastfed my daughter for one year and nine months, I liked it so much that I became certified as a lactation consultant to support and accompany moms in this process”.

The mother-child connection during breastfeeding may not be immediate. Photo: Pixabay

Ani invites all mothers to seek help when they need it, “It is essential to have a support network so that you do not feel alone”.

She also tells us that in March, she will launch a recipe book in which she combines “The experience of being a mother and making delicious, healthy and easy food for my daughter, together with a gastro pediatrician so that we have dishes that are safe and that we contribute to our children”.

Give your baby a massage and strengthen the emotional bond

Giving a massage to a baby, girl or boy is a nurturing touch for the soul. Investment for you to enjoy physical and emotional well-being. You only need a few minutes a day and your hands. “Through them, you establish a family dynamic of love and communication”, says Ana Laura Ponce Cuspinera, Mexican trainer of the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM).

The representation of IAIM in our country is in charge of the Network of Educators of Child Massage Mexico (REMI). The massage consists of pressing some parts of the body with adequate intensity. When this technique is applied to babies, “non-verbal communication is achieved with them. An affective bond is created, emotional well-being is generated, and stress is reduced”.

The expert recommends starting to massage your baby from day one until your son or daughter leaves home. If you want, you can do it all your life because physical contact is necessary and important.

Some of the multiple benefits of infant massage are:

  • Regulate and strengthen physiological functions.
  • Improve muscle tone.
  • Reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
  • Stimulate the immune system.
  • Relax and improve the state of wakefulness and sleep.

According to the study, Effects of therapeutic massage on anxiety and stress in the pediatric population, published in the Journal of the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Colombia, therapeutic massage benefits the baby.

Since a baby is born, if you try to implement a daily massage routine, the impact will be very positive on the whole family’s physical, physiological, and emotional well-being.

Research indicates it decreases cortisol levels, a better adaptation of physiological responses to stressors, weight gain, and a more significant behavioral and sleep organization.

It also benefits mom and dad

Each family must find the ideal moments to perform the massage. It will be necessary to make eye contact with the baby and respect his rhythm because sometimes he will not be willing, especially if he is hungry or sleepy.

Massaging the baby is an activity that the mom or dad should do to create an experience that allows both parents and children to exchange sensations and feelings. It is a way of enriching affective communication.

Ponce Cuspinera mentions that, through touch and caresses, a loving bond is created with the children, and the hormones that generate dopamine are activated and, consequently, emotional well-being, “Parents will be able to understand their babies better, read their signals and learn to communicate with them”.

It has also been proven that if mom or dad massage their baby, they can:

  • Reduce pressure and stress levels.
  • Increase awareness of their work.
  • Build self-confidence.
  • Offer quality time to their little ones.
  • Establish a tradition with social impact.

Baby massage, an ancient tradition

Infant massage is a tradition that has existed for many years in various cultures. At REMI, the technique they use is the proposal created by Vimala McClure, founder of the International Association of Infant Massage, found in 70 countries.

This technique takes up aspects of Hindu and Swedish massage, yoga, and reflexology and seeks to make men and women aware of the importance of loving children through physical contact. “Create less violent generations and build more loving and inclusive families, communities, and societies”, says Ana Laura Ponce.

Likewise, they are interested in girls and boys growing up with the security and independence they need to develop in society as socially responsible adults, “In this way, we want to counteract domestic violence, intolerance, abandonment, and child abuse; then, if you visit a prison and look at the files of the inmates, you will see that these people lacked something in their childhood”.

Drowsy during pregnancy? This is the reason and what you can do about it

One of the most perceived symptoms from the beginning of pregnancy is sleep when you are pregnant. What is the reason we feel so tired? Our eyes are closed! But like all the changes that happen during this stage, it has a curious reason.

Drowsiness during pregnancy

During early pregnancy, levels of the hormone progesterone increase, and your metabolism is at a high level, which can cause daytime sleepiness and fatigue. If you work or have other children to take care of, this can be a big problem, as it is difficult to control the desire to lie down for a while and sleep soundly.

“During pregnancy, the metabolism increases, and the body stores cholesterol, glucose, etc. Yes, there is some tiredness and sleep. This is because the metabolism is saving resources. That, coupled with the hormone progesterone, which also increases in levels, makes you feel sleepy,” explains gynecologist Susana Haquet Santana, academic of the Department of Embryology and Genetics of the Faculty of Medicine, UNAM.

During the first trimester, things are like this. You will be more eager to sleep than usual, which is normal. You will feel tired while watching how your body transforms to protect and promote your baby’s development.

At the beginning of pregnancy, the levels of the hormone progesterone increase, and your metabolism is working triple. This can cause drowsiness and fatigue. Photo: Pxhere

The placenta, the organ that nourishes the baby throughout his growth, is forming. Your body is making more blood; your heart is beating faster. All of you is preparing to give life.

What can we do? Be patient. Drink water to cool down. When you can’t anymore, get up and take a walk. Eat well and take your vitamins. Sleep during pregnancy is normal, but if you are underweight, one of the main symptoms of anemia is an increased feeling of tiredness and fatigue. The consumption of iron-rich foods is highly recommended: green leafy vegetables, oily nuts, and fruits with vitamin C. Preferably whole, not in juice.

Later, things change. Tiredness doesn’t go away, but it will be hard for some moms to fall asleep. Every woman is different, and every pregnancy is different, so there are no rules.

.

As the baby grows, many women find it challenging to get enough uninterrupted sleep. Photo: PxFuel

Trouble sleeping during pregnancy

According to the Mayo Clinic, typical symptoms during pregnancy could disturb sleep. For example:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Need to urinate often
  • Physical discomfort (tender breasts, back pain, leg cramps, heartburn, itching, shortness of breath, restless leg syndrome)
  • Fetal movement
  • Snoring
  • Anxiety about labor and delivery
  • Sleep disorders

What can you do to sleep well?

From the beginning, it is a good idea to get used to sleeping on your side (preferably on the left side, with your legs bent). This is the most comfortable position as the pregnancy progresses. You can experiment with different pillows. Many women find it helpful to put one under the abdomen or between the legs. There are pillows for pregnant women, too.

Take care of your diet. Minimize caffeinated beverages, colas, coffee, and tea. Many doctors recommend having a bigger breakfast and lunch and a lighter dinner at night, but make sure you’re getting enough nutrients. Drink enough water during the day and less when you are about to sleep. It would help if you also tried to eat the amount indicated by your doctor.

Lastly, always consult your specialist. He can help you specifically with your case.

6 breastfeeding positions: How can I carry them out?

When our baby is born, we want to do everything perfectly. Every moment is new, and breastfeeding is no exception. We are concerned about feeding him properly. There are positions to breastfeed and facilitate this process. Do you know which ones they are? We share with you 6 breastfeeding positions and how to carry them out.

Breastfeeding has multiple benefits; it is a way of transmitting defenses against diseases to our children, but it is also a moment of intimacy with the little one in which we generate emotional ties.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable; find the position in which you feel best. Remember that you must wash your hands before and after breastfeeding.

María Fernanda González Lazcano, lactation consultant, commented that it is not normal that breastfeeding hurts. She highlighted the importance of having a good technique in which you enjoy that moment of closeness with your baby.

“There is no one position that is the best; the best is the one in which the mother and the baby adapt. There are some in which the mother or the baby is not comfortable and must be changed. The position does not mean this is what you have to do. It’s about being comfortable and getting results.”

We recommend: Breastfeeding against Covid-19: this is what scientists say

The Nemours Kids Health organization recommends the following postures:

Cradle hold

It is the most common. It consists of carrying your baby in your arms, with his head resting on the crook of your arm, so that your little one’s nose is facing your nipple. You can support your breast with your free hand.

In this position, you cradle your baby in your arms. Photo: Pixabay

Cross-cradle hold

It is a variant of the previous one, except that in this position, you take your baby’s head with the opposite hand to the side of the breast with which you will breastfeed, and your child’s body will rest along your arm. You can use a pillow and place it on your lap to bring him closer to you.

The advantage of this position is that it gives you more control of your child’s suckling, and by supporting his head with your hand, he has more of a hold on your nipple.

By supporting your baby's head, you have more control over her sucking. Photo: Shutterstock.

The side-lying position

It is a very comfortable position for moms, especially those with a C-section, because the little one does not pressure the abdomen. It consists of lying on your side and placing your baby next to you so that his nose is in front of your nipple.

Wrap your forearm around him to bring it closer to you. You can roll up a sheet and put it under your child’s back to make him more comfortable.

If you had a C-section, this position would give you greater comfort. Photo: Shutterstock

The clutch or football hold

This position is also very comfortable for C-section moms and those with twins if they want to feed them simultaneously, and it also allows babies to take milk more efficiently.

Place a cushion close to your body and support the little one on his back with your arm. Use the palm of the hand of the arm with which you are supporting your child and position him so that his side is next to yours. His legs should be under your arm.

Laid-back hold

You can lie on your back, bare-chested, and place your baby on top of you in this position. Instinctively he will look for your nipple. This position is also used for the kangaroo mother care method and strengthens the bond between mother and child.

The closeness with your skin will make your little one look for your breast. Photo: Shutterstock

Koala hold

If your baby suffers from reflux, this position could prevent heartburn. It consists of sitting your little one on your leg so that he approaches your breast.

With the baby sitting on your lap, you will avoid reflux. Photo: Shutterstock

Regardless of the position you choose, you should be comfortable in all of them and have support for your back so that it is straight and relaxed to maintain the position during breastfeeding.

The American Academy of Pediatrics explains that if the mother is reclining or leaning forward, it can be difficult for the little one to latch on to the breast.

Maria Fernanda Gonzalez Lazcano, a lactation consultant, affirms, “The mother’s back has to be straight when she breastfeeds to avoid tension and pain”.

Cleaning and care

Dr. Josefina Lira, a gynecologist at Hospital Ángeles, comments, “Breast hygiene is very important during breastfeeding”. She recommends cleaning them with a damp cotton ball before and after each breastfeeding session.

In case of dryness in the nipple, apply a hypoallergenic cream that is not greasy so that it is not difficult to clean the area to breastfeed.

“A proper breastfeeding technique is important to avoid those cracks in the nipple. If there are cracks, the patient can express the milk mechanically, let it rest for a couple of days, and apply some healing cream. She can also wear a nipple shield, so she doesn’t interrupt breastfeeding”.

Do not forget that breastfeeding is a moment that you should enjoy. What position works for you?

Vaccines for your newborn: Which are they?

The feeling of holding our baby in our arms is unique. When we lull him to sleep, we think about how fragile he is and that we would always keep him away from any danger. One of the ways to protect your little one is with vaccines. Vaccines for your newborn: Which are they?

Isis Adriana Moctezuma Rebollo, a pediatrician member of the Mexican Association of Pediatrics, highlighted the importance of vaccinating babies in the first days after birth since these are a mechanism for controlling many infectious diseases common in the past.

“There are diseases that can cause death; they can be transmitted to people who are not protected. These diseases have a tremendous economic impact and cause medical consultations, hospitalizations, and premature deaths”.

We recommend: Breastfeeding against Covid-19: this is what scientists say

UNICEF points out that vaccines constitute one of the most significant advances in health and development worldwide since they have reduced diseases such as polio, measles, and smallpox for more than two centuries, thus avoiding 3 million deaths per year from these conditions, according to the international organization.

When and which vaccines should my baby receive?

The United States National Library of Medicine explains that newborns are under four weeks old. According to the Ministry of Health, the vaccination schedule for this stage is made up of:

  • BCG: Prevents meningeal tuberculosis (brain infection), which can cause death and must be applied when your baby is born. It is injected into the right arm.
  • Hepatitis B: It is also applied at the time of birth. This infection is transmitted from mothers to children and is used to prevent the child from getting sick. You should receive two booster doses: at two and six months old.

Baby horoscopes: What is yours?

The position of the stars and the date on which we are born contribute characteristics to our personality. If your baby is very curious, loves to explore, or is very sensitive, it may be due to his horoscope. We tell you the characteristics of each zodiac sign and tips to deal with them: Baby horoscopes: What is yours?

Research of the University of Murcia in Spain finds the origin of horoscopes in the Babylonians. They were the first to assign shapes to the stars and write the most amazing facts and their relationship with the stars on tablets.

Astrologer Ishtar Freya explains that Astrology is very diverse and deep, encompassing many personality traits. She also clarifies that each person is different; even if he shares the same zodiac sign with others, no one is the same.

“We will always have different characteristics, the same happens with children, they may have the same zodiac sign as their cousins, but they will have a completely different personality. Astrology can give us some personality traits, but it doesn’t define us 100%”.

How do the stars influence us?

Freya explains that the relationships among the solar sign, the ascendant, and the moon help understand personality traits.

“Our solar sign is assigned according to our date of birth. Our ascendant indicates our personality, that is, how we address the world through these characteristics, while the moon represents our emotional intelligence”.

She points out that the signs are also divided into cardinal, fixed, and mutable; the first ones tend to be leaders, the fixed give structure to what the cardinal built, and the mutable can do both.

To know the personality traits of your little one, the first thing is to identify his zodiac sign by his date of birth. Ishtar Freya tells us what your little one’s personality can be like and how you can treat it based on these zodiac dates:

Aries (March 21 – April 21)

They are very active; they love to be leaders, to conquer new things. It seems that they do not run out of battery, and it is hard to put them to sleep. As parents, we must teach them limits so that they think before acting.

Taurus (April 22 – May 21)

It is a fixed earth sign, ruled by Venus. They are calmer children with more passive energy; they are observant, practical, and creative. They can become very artistic; they are very peaceful and stable; however, they can be stubborn and possessive. They don’t like changes, so if you have a little Taurus, you should explain to them that the changes are for the better.

Gemini (May 22 – June 21)

It is the first air sign. They are usually very naughty, so it won’t be easy to keep them quiet. They tend to be precocious; they will ask questions sooner than most children their age. Little ones under this sign tend to be dual in character, happy for a while and then angry.

They can become reckless as they absorb everything they hear. As parents, we must teach prudence and make them understand that they do not have to say everything they hear.

Cancer (June 22 – July 22)

It is a cardinal, water sign ruled by the moon. They are children very attached to their mothers. Super cute, loving, calm, and sensitive, so many things can make them cry or feel betrayed; they are very suspicious. We have to focus on them being sure of themselves.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

It is a fixed sign governed by the sun; they can be very confident and creative, but they can also become arrogant and demanding. They can be authoritarian, adventurous, and proud. They have to be taught from an early age to handle these emotions. They are very loyal, generous, noble, and have big hearts.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

It is a very particular sign because it is mutable and earthy. You are going to face very analytical children, very critical. We have to teach them that not everything has to be precisely the way they want it so that they don’t develop feelings of frustration. They are very organized and neat.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

It is a cardinal air sign ruled by Venus. They can be lovely and cuddly; it seems that they are fragile, but they are not. Being ruled by Venus, their aesthetic energy makes them always smile on their faces; they are very cheerful, sleep all night, but have a very low tolerance for frustration, and it is difficult for them to decide. From a young age, they must be encouraged to make their decisions with exercises, such as choosing their clothes.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)

It is a water sign ruled by Pluto. They are adorable children, but it is not easy to live with them. They tend to be intuitive, sentimental, and mysterious, so they are also usually reserved. From a young age, we must work with them to express their feelings. They are very jealous and can feel betrayed.

Sagittarius (November 23 – December 21)

Mutable sign of fire, its planet is Jupiter. They are optimistic, funny, witty. They will ask profound questions, like the origin of the Universe. They are rational and very free.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 20)

It is a cardinal earth sign; its planet is Saturn. It is a planet that generates strong discipline configurations; they are lonely and will be in their space where they feel good. They are very structured children; unexpected changes stress them out and make them feel out of place. We must help them understand that things evolve as part of life. They are patient and determined.

Aquarius (January 21 – February 18)

Aquarius children are interested in technology; they are original, creative, and very independent, but also stubborn. You have to set rules for them because they are rebellious. They tend to be interested in technology.

.

Pisces (February 19 – March 21)

His planet is Neptune; it is a mutable water sign. They are super intuitive and sensitive to energies, with very powerful emotional acuity. They are very imaginative, so you have to encourage them to express everything they perceive. They are very friendly and try to help others.

It is widespread for newborns to get yellow scabs on their heads. If you have detected this kind of dandruff in your baby, do not be alarmed, we will tell you what scrabs are on the baby’s head and how to remove them, so scabs on the baby’s head: what are they?

Babies’ skin is very delicate, it requires a lot of care, and the scalp is no exception. Babies’ scales are not dandruff but seborrheic dermatitis, although it is commonly called cradle cap or yellow scabs.

Scabs on the baby’s head: what are they?

Rossana Llergo Valdez, president of the Mexican Foundation for Dermatology, explained that this condition is prevalent in infants and causes scaly, dry, or oily plaques on the scalp of babies. It is not painful or itchy. However, these scabs can be challenging to remove.

“It is a frequent condition that happens due to an excess of fat called seborrhea. It may be due to a hormonal imbalance, mainly due to maternal hormones; it happens in the newborn stage. But it does not represent a problem that should concern us”.

What is it?

The Nemours Children’s Health Foundation explains that the cradle cap is the simple way of calling seborrheic dermatitis that appears on the scalp of babies. Also called seborrhea, it can occur in:

  • Forehead and face
  • Behind the ears
  • Diaper area
  • Other skin folds

This foundation details that seborrheic dermatitis usually begins with the cradle cap; it first affects the scalp, but then it can spread to other parts of the body.

How can we treat cradle cap?

As time goes by and the daily bath, it can fall off on its own. You can also use special soaps to help it disappear. Dr. Rossana Llergo Valdez recommends using keratolytic shampoos because they have substances that remove the skin’s stratum corneum or those with zinc pyrithione, which has antifungal properties.

“Shampoos with a very gentle keratolytic component help us clean babies’ scalp, so the scale falls off properly”.

The also president of the Mexican Foundation for Dermatology advises not to scrape the cradle cap since it can irritate the scalp of our little ones.

How long does it take to disappear?

With this type of shampoo, you will notice improvement between 15 and 20 days. If you decide not to use any products, the cradle cap can disappear in a few weeks or months.

When should we consult a doctor?

The Mayo Clinic organization recommends visiting a doctor if seborrhea persists or has spread to other parts of the body so that he can assess the child and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

The doctor will ask you:

  • • How long has your baby had the cradle cap?
  • • What have you done to treat it?
  • • How often do you shampoo his hair?
  • • What products have you tried?

Do not forget to consult the dermatologist frequently to take care of your baby’s skin.
