What to do in an earthquake?

Earthquakes can happen at any time, like the one that occurred this morning. So you must be prepared and explain to the children what to do so that they are not afraid.

Inside the earth, there are rocks; when they collide, they break, and the energy released generates waves, which make the earth move; these movements are called earthquakes, states the National Seismological Service (SSN).

So that the tremors do not take you by surprise, it would help if you made an action plan as a family; with this, you can stay safe. These are some recommendations by Civil Protection before an earthquake.

We recommend: How to integrate healthy family routines

Prevention measures

  • Locate safe areas: Whether at home or outside, identity where they can take shelter during an earthquake.
  • Have important documents on hand: Keep your children’s IDs and birth certificates or vaccination records in a plastic envelope.
  • Emergency backpack: Keep medications, canned food, a flashlight, water, and a first aid kit.
  • Identify evacuation routes: You need to know how to get out as soon as possible or, if appropriate, the safest shelter areas.
  • Drills: Participate with your children in these activities to be familiar with what to do in an earthquake.
  • Involve your children: Get them involved in the family action plan. Teach them what the safety zones are and that they should be careful with windows, wires, furniture, and objects that can fall.

Do not miss: The anger box, an effective tool to control tantrums

Actions during earthquakes

  • Keep calm: If your children see you calm, they will be too and face the quake with less stress.
  • Do not run or push: You can hurt someone or make them fall.
  • Stay away from windows and furniture: Glass can break and hurt you, while furniture can topple over in motion.
  • Look for safe areas: At home, they should stand at the beams or load-bearing walls, which are more stable. Outside, stay away from trees, light poles, or power lines.
  • Do not use elevators or stairs: If you are in a building with many floors, it is best not to use the elevator or stairs.

After the earthquake

  • Check your home: Identify if there are fractures or cracks in the walls.
  • Leaks: Look for gas and water pipes to check for leaks.
  • Listen to the news: Find out if the earthquake causes damage.
  • Validate your children’s feelings: Stay alert to their emotions: reassure them, listen to them and tell them that you are always by their side.

Remember that the most important thing is always to take care of the lives of all family members. Teach your mischievous these measures.

The story behind the Three Kings

Today is one of the most anticipated dates for our little ones, who woke up early to see their gifts. It is one of the traditions that we remember most fondly, but do you know the story of the Three Kings?

Three Kings Day is a special date for both children and adults, who we relive with our children or nephews, that illusion of waking up the next day and discovering if the Kings had brought us what we asked for. This tradition has its origin in the Catholic religion.

Father José de Jesús Aguilar Valdés, assistant manager of Radio and Television of the Archdiocese of Mexico, explained that on January 6th, the Catholic religion celebrates Epiphany, a Greek word that means manifestation, this celebration recalls when some wise men from the East, guided by the Star of Bethlehem, came to worship Baby Jesus.

We recommend: Rosca de Reyes: Explanation for children

Do the Three Kings (Wise Men) appear in the Bible?

The Gospel by Saint Matthew only mentions that “some wise men from the East,” guided by a star, came to Jerusalem to worship the newborn King and offer him gifts.

“When the kings arrived in Jerusalem, they thought that the born king would be in Herod’s palace. To assassinate the child, Herod asked them to look for him and come back to tell him where he was and go to worship him. But in dreams, they were warned not to return to Herod.”

Father José de Jesús Aguilar Valdés

The priest explained that the Three Kings represent all humanity; therefore, they are of different skin tones.

Who are the Magic Kings Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar?

  • Melchor: He is a bearded, white, older man, represents the Europeans, and offers Baby Jesus gold.
  • Gaspar: he is the one with the brown hair and beard who represents the Asians; he gave incense. His name means “treasure manager”.
  • Baltazar: he is represented with a dark complexion representing Africa and gave the child myrrh. His name means “the one who protects the king”.

The Three Wise Men Photo: Shutterstock

What do the gifts of the Three Wise Men mean?

Father Aguilar Valdés commented that kings were honored with gold; incense was used in temples and means that people accepted that the newborn child was God; while myrrh was used to embalm the dead, so it represented that the child “was god and king, but he became a man to die for humanity”.

How do we know the name of the Three Wise Men?

Although the name of the Kings is not mentioned in the Bible, in a mural of the sixth century in Ravenna, Italy, the Wise Men’s names appear, Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar. From there, it is thought that their names spread, and with the expansion of Christianity, the arrival of the Wise Men became a tradition.

According to the Complutense University of Madrid, in the early years of Christianity, in the Catacombs of Rome, works began to appear in which the three Kings were represented.

The fourth Wise Man

A legend indicates that Artaban, a Persian king, would join Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar to meet Baby Jesus; however, on his way, he stopped to help a homeless man, and he was delayed.

Arriving at Borsippa, in Mesopotamia, where it is believed that he would meet his three traveling companions, he found that they had departed. He continued his trip, but when he arrived in Jerusalem, people informed him that Baby Jesus was no longer there, nor did he locate Melchor, Gaspar, or Baltazar.

He witnessed the execution that Herod ordered against children under two years of age; Artaban, to prevent a Roman soldier from murdering a little boy, offered the guard a diamond. This was the reason why he was imprisoned for 30 years. The legend of Artaban was spread by the theologian Henry van Dyke, in a story from the 19th century entitled “The Other Wise Man”.

“Rosca de Reyes”: Explanation for children

The Rosca de Reyes is a delicious tradition. This explanation for children will help you tell the little ones its origin and meaning.

One of the most delicious traditional dishes is the Rosca de Reyes; just thinking of a cup of hot chocolate with a slice of it makes our mouths water; this tradition has an origin and meaning. Get together with your little ones to learn about it. This delicious tradition is an opportunity to spend time with the family, in which the little ones talk about the gifts that the Three Wise Men brought them.

Meaning

There are Roscas of various shapes and flavors today, but the meaning goes back to Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar’s visit to Baby Jesus after his birth. All the ingredients represent an aspect of that visit.

  • Oval shape: It represents the infinite love of God.
  • Dried fruits: They symbolize the jewels embedded in the Wise Men’s crowns.
  • Hidden child figurine: it represents Baby Jesus. It recalls the time in which he remained hidden when King Herod ordered to persecute him. Part of the tradition is that whoever finds Baby Jesus in the Rosca must take care of him until February 2nd, Candlemas Day, and prepare tamales.
  • Knife: It refers to the dangers faced by Baby Jesus.

Origin

Although the most widespread version of the story of the Rosca de Reyes is related to the Catholic religion and the birth of Baby Jesus, there is also another version that points to the Romans.

The Ministry of Culture of Mexico City points out that the Romans, during their celebration of Saturn (god of agriculture and time), a bean was placed inside a Rosca, and whoever found it became king for a day.

Years later, with the expansion of Christianity, this tradition took on a more symbolic and religious connotation. The Three Wise Men traveled from the East to visit Baby Jesus; as a token of their worship, they brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Another version on the origin of the Rosca refers to France; during the reign of Louis XV, a French court cook prepared the Rosca for the king, a dish that became popular among the nobility, the object that was hidden was a coin of gold.

It is believed that this dish was brought to Spain by King Felipe V. Little by little, it became a dish enjoyed after Christmas. It arrived in Mexico during the time of the conquest.

When do we eat the Rosca de Reyes?

On January 6th, after the arrival of the Three Wise Men, is when we eat this dish, as it recalls the visit of Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar to Baby Jesus.

Where can we eat Rosca de Reyes?

You can get together with your family to share this tradition, but you can also visit the Festival de la Rosca y el Chocolate 2022 in Mexico City, which will take place on January 5th and 6th, from 1:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.

This event will be held at the Lienzo Charro del Peñón, located at Adolfo Ruíz Cortines 602, Mayor’s Office, Venustiano Carranza, near Oceanía Metro Station.

How to promote spirituality in the family

Parents are concerned that their children grow up healthy and strong, that they have good grades, and play sports. But what about their spiritual development? From the family, we can promote spirituality and have many benefits. We tell you what they are!

Panterita Roch, a spiritual coach, explained that we tend to think that we are separate entities, in which the body is on one side, and the mind on the other, and spirituality entails an enormous effort on our part; however, there is nothing more natural, because, above all, we are spirit.

We can make spirituality part of our daily lives and foster it with some small practices in our families. Panterita Roch shares with us some of her advice to promote family spirituality.

Some of the benefits that spiritual development gives us are:

  • It helps relax and release stress.
  • It promotes the development of values.
  • It encourages empathy, compassion, and dignity.
  • It helps develop respect for us and others.
  • It encourages questioning and growth.

Besides these benefits, we may add a more balanced life, better communication among family members, and an atmosphere of peace and generosity, which provides us with an optimal solution to solve everyday problems.

“Although these benefits sound idyllic, the truth is that these are natural characteristics of our essence that always accompany us; we just have to change our approach and remember what we are”.

Take advantage of everyday activities

The practices in our routine are a good time to practice; if we want to teach our family to be grateful, we can start by giving thanks when we finish a meal.

You can thank the Universe or anyone you have faith in so that it begins to become a conscious habit.

Involve your partner

Before starting to teach your children, talk to your partner so that everyone takes advantage of the moments of coexistence and promotes spirituality in a didactic way.

“You should first strengthen your own beliefs and help each other find inner balance. There will always be questions to ask and challenges to overcome, but together is better”.

Encourage service to others by example

An old saying says that “you have to lead by example,” so if we want to instill in our little ones to help others, we must start with ourselves, either by donating something or allocating part of our time to some tasks.

“Nothing like your example to make service to others organic and natural; this will help us develop empathy for others and see other people as part of yourself, which is one of the most important lessons of selfless service”.

Meditate together

Doing meditation, a daily family practice is the best way to encourage spirituality in our little ones.

“Hold short sessions if you have never done it before and increase the time depending on the need of the family members. Five minutes will be enough. Remember that deep breathing is key, inhaling deeply in five seconds, holding the air for three seconds and then releasing it in five seconds; the important thing is that they can relax and connect with their inner self”.

Learn together

Researching about topics that catch your attention and discussing the points that are most interesting to you will unite you more.

Panterita Roch commented that you could start fostering spirituality in children as soon as they begin to be aware of themselves; the ideal age is five years old to help them manage their emotions and frustrations at that stage.

“The important thing is that you connect, express your concerns and triumphs, and that family members represent physical and spiritual support for each other”.

Rituals to attract abundance

The Christmas season makes us think about what happened to us in the year and plan what we want for the next one. One way to fill ourselves with energy is through rituals to attract abundance; we leave you some to do as a family and attract abundance.

Spiritual coach, Panterita, shares with us that to obtain the abundance we desire, we must let go of past experiences, even the bad ones, to make room for all that is good.

Abundance is energy; it is an energetic current that flows from you and through you. You can make room in your energy, but if you are full of emotions you have not released, you are not making room for new things to come into your life”.

Preparation

Before performing the ritual, you must prepare internally by looking for the right place and time for your family to be relaxed, but also externally: clean your home, especially the area of the house where the ritual will be performed.

Internally, you will think about what you want to achieve by 2022: if you’re going to change jobs, buy a house, buy a car… Panterita comments that when one thinks about the goals I want to achieve, I am charging myself with energy.

“The intention, when you think about what you want, you are aware of it, you impregnate it with energy to become a reality. This feeling, that energy is going to make this work”.

What do you need?

Once you have cleaned your house, found the place, as well as the time to perform the ritual, and that you have done this exercise of thinking about your goals, you’ll need:

  • • One purple candle: purple is the color of transmutation; we will use it because we will let go of everything we don’t want.
  • • One golden candle: it helps us bring abundance. If you don’t get a golden one, it can be red, yellow, or orange.
  • • paper and pen
  • • A pot or cauldron
  • • Music: you can search for mantras or frequencies

Visualize what you want

Once you and your family have found the right time and place, you are going to take the candle, the paper and the pen; with the candle in your hands, you will close your eyes and inhale deeply three times; while you do it, you will think about everything that happened to you in this 2021 and give thanks.

“You will say three times thank you, and then you will think about everything that happened this year. You are going to write everything. First, you will write the phrase. Thank you three times: Thank you because I had a job this year. And also, be thankful for the bad because everything you consider to be something bad is a teaching that shows you what your soul has to work on”.

By doing this ritual, you let go of everything that happened to you and make room for new things. The next step is to think about what you want for the next year, visualize it, and you are going to write it down on a piece of paper; then, take the golden candle, and again you will imagine what you expect from the following year.

“We are going to light the golden candle. You will take it into your hands and set an intention on it; this intention is what makes the difference. You will feel and remember the happiest moment in your life, and you will transmit that feeling of love from your heart to the candle, and you will infuse it with energy”.

Now that you have visualized your life in 2022 write down what you saw and put it in place in your home or office to constantly see it. Get together with your family; each one may think about what they want for the following year and do this ritual to receive abundance.

Grandparents’ Day, Day of Wisdom. Congratulations!

“If I had known how wonderful it is to have grandchildren, I would have had them first”, says humorously Filiberta Arteaga, grandmother of Luis, Julio, Paola, Mariana, Samantha, Karla, Ximena, Sofia, Miguel, Daniela, Renata, Nicole, Hannia, Julieta and Victoria. “All of them, at different times, have been my joy with their pranks and, although they have grown up, they keep filling my soul. They are a garden of love that grows in the heart”.

Grandmothers and grandfathers are love, understanding, wisdom, dedication and strength. They offer us a priceless treasure. They are a fundamental pillar in the upbringing of their grandchildren; thanks to them many parents can go out to make a living; they transmit experience, tranquility, stability… simply LOVE.

August 28th, Grandparents’ Day

On August 28th, Grandparents’ Day is celebrated in Mexico. The date is different from the one celebrated in other countries in Latin America or Europe. For example, in Colombia it is celebrated on August 16th, in Venezuela on May 29th, in Chile on October 15th, and in Spain on July 26th. Anyway, this August 28th is our Grandparents’ Day, a date that has several possible origins.

The possible origins of Grandparents’ Day

Some people say that it was established on August 28th since it is the feast of Augustine of Hippo, who lived in the fourth and fifth centuries and is considered the ‘father’ of the Catholic Church. Saint Augustine laid the foundations of Christianity as we know it to these days. Another possible theory is that, in 1957, the Pan-American Congress of Gerontology (scientific discipline that studies aging) was held in Mexico. During the congress, Colombian Guillermo Marroquin Sánchez instituted August 28th as Grandparents’ Day, and since then in Mexico adopted it.

The most accepted and credible theory is that on August 28th, 1994, the radio broadcaster Edgar Fernando Gaytan Monzón instituted the date from his radio show “La Hora Azul” in Chihuahua. María Grever’s song Cuando vuelva a tu lado (When I Come Back to Your Side) performed by Eydie Gorme and Los Panchos served as background music and witness to that event.

Although in Mexico City there was already a day dedicated to grandparents since 1983, it was not until 1998 that August 28th was instituted as the Day of the Elderly. Interesting, isn’t it?

Energetic ties between parents and children: the invisible family legacy

“Parents are connected to their children through invisible energy ties”.

“As if they were blood donors, parents make a constant ‘transfusion’ of spiritual energy. This interaction never ceases, it does not depend on time or space, it does not disappear after the physical death of parents or children”, says Russian writer Konstantin V. Zorin, author of the book The Sins of Parents and Children’s Diseases.

There is a theory that states that each generation inherits from the previous ones – especially from parents or close relatives – the characteristics of their way of thinking, feeling, will, as well as physical features and unresolved problems.

The invisible ties of energy

They are called energy ties and they come from the belief that our souls “constellate” in a certain energy nucleus.

“We must remember that everything and everyone is energy and we are connected. However, among family members, these energy ties are even stronger. When we come to earth, we choose our parents and our ancestors to learn certain lessons that we have to live in this incarnation”, comments Sandra Elisa Roch, better known as Panterita, health coach and transgenerational therapist.

According to the transgenerational theory, the first physical, emotional and spiritual bond that we have is the umbilical cord. Through it, we are transmitted the ancestral heritage, the gifts and conflicts of our biological parents, and the culture to which our clan belongs.

Energy ties transmit conflicts and virtues

K-V Zorin states: “This phenomenon explains why parents transmit to their children their lack of grace, as well as their vices and pernicious tendencies, from which they have not been able to escape until that moment”.

“In the same way, they inherit their virtues, talents and the potential of divine energies. It should be emphasized that the influence of the father is equal to that of the mother. There are no differences. Furthermore, the interaction never ends, even if it changes its intensity”.

Have you ever wondered why you repeat some of your parents’ patterns?

From our individuality we build other ties with friends, peers, partners, places and experiences that leave their mark on us, but some situations are very similar to what our ancestors once lived.

The friend who disappointed us, the relationship that was a disaster, the partner who betrayed you, the mistake that is made over and over again within the family. All of those, says this theory, are karmic ties, a connection that you have acquired (or your ancestors acquired) in a past life, something like a “debt” or learning that you have pending.

“I don’t know if you believe in past lives, but many times these ties are repeated among living beings, having different relationships. Sometimes your mother was your sister or your daughter and so on with the different roles of the family”, says the health coach.

How to get rid of energy ties that you do not want?

According to Panterita Roch, there are therapeutic methods that impact on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The main thing is the recognition of the existence of an energetic bond that you can embrace as a gift, or you can close, and conclude the cycle.

1. Identify and accept that this bond is not yours

“These patterns are repeated from generation to generation. What you have to do is to become aware that this energetic load, this bond, is not yours, it belongs to your family and to generations ago”.

2. Research in your family

“Find out which members of your family have experienced the same event as you did. It is very likely that you will not be the first, nor the last, but it depends on you that that chain breaks”.

3. Break with patterns

“There are people in charge of working with transgenerational trees. They do some research of everything that has happened and, through acts of psychomagic, they help the person break these patterns so that they no longer happen to you, or to future generations”.

“There are people in charge of working with transgenerational trees. They do some research of everything that has happened and, through acts of psychomagic, they help the person break these patterns so that they no longer happen to you, or to future generations”.

If you notice that you are in a pattern, whether you are imitating your parents, grandparents or great-grandparents, or repeating the destiny of a family member, inquire further, find out how to close that cycle or accept the virtues that you have inherited.

“Transgenerational energy not only marks negative patterns, but also very positive patterns such as abundance or gifts that could be inherited to you. It is up to you to accept them with love, thank them, and use them for your highest good and that of others. For example, when I studied my transgenerational tree, I realized that my great-grandfather was a shaman and with much love, gratitude and humility, I accepted the gifts that were given to me in order to continue the work that he started”.

“Energy and energy bonds are very important and can generate positive and negative ties in your life. It is up to you to break those patterns or accept the gifts to create the life you want”, concludes Panterita Roch.
